Itinerary

Around 9 am, after breakfast, your Jungle Guide will pick up you at your guesthouse. Follow him along the river and uphill through some rubber plantations to the entrance of Gunung Leuser National Park. Here you will have a great chance of spotting Bukit Lawang’s semiwild Orangutans as well as the lovely Thomas Leaf Monkeys and Long Tail Macaques.

As the Day Tours and 2 Days Treks are quiet famous, your Jungle Guide will choose a route off the beaten track. Meet up to 8 different monkey species, gibbons, turtles and the melodious peacock on your way through the densely wooded mountains. Stop for a refreshing tropical fruit snack and enjoy the incredible jungle vibes around you.  

Then hike up to an unforgettable viewpoint from where you can overlook the whole valley of the Bahorok River and the mountains of Gunung Leuser National Park. Restore your energy with a yummy lunch of nasi goreng and continue trekking. Around 4 pm you will arrive at one of our campsites close to the water.

Relax and refresh yourself after the impressions of your first day in the crystal clear Bahorok River or under the waterfall. Have some tea or coffee and cookies while watching Orangutans building their nests before nightfall if you are lucky. The day will fade with delicious homemade dinner and chatting or playing funny games with your guides and trekking mates around candles and bonfire. Fall asleep surrounded by magical jungle sounds….

Wake up in the morning together with the wildlife of Gunung Leuser National Park. After you enjoyed a beautifully decorated breakfast, continue your jungle trek to see more inhabitants of the Indonesian rainforest.

Now you can choose between walking back to Bukit Lawang or rafting down the river on big rubber tires which are knotted as a boat and promise a lot of fun! With our traditional “jungle taxi” you will arrive in Bukit Lawang between noon and 2 pm, where your guide will accompany you back to your guesthouse.

Do some more activities in the afternoon or relax in your hammock and let the impressions of the last 2 days sink in…

Absolutes Highlight

Ich war bereits drei Mal mit „The Jungle Guide“ unterwegs, 2013, 2018, 2022, es macht süchtig. Die Dschungel-Trecks gehören zu den besten und unvergesslichsten Erfahrungen meines Lebens. Anto war jeweils unser Guide, sein Wissen über den Dschungel und sein erfahrener Umgang mit den Tieren hat uns sehr bereichert und jederzeit absolut sicher fühlen lassen, die Fröhlichkeit des gesamten Teams war ansteckend, die Organisation immer perfekt.
Der 2-Tages-Treck ist besonders zu empfehlen, die Nacht im Dschungel ist unbeschreiblich, (man schläft unter einem Dach mit Moskitonetz), der Spaß beim gemeinsamen Spiel im Camp am Abend, die Geräusche der Nacht, das Erwachen mit den Tieren am Fluss, das äußerst schmackhafte Essen, der Gaudi beim Rafting auf den Reifen flussabwärts hat nicht nur unsere Kinder begeistert, unvergesslich!! (für Kinder ab Schulalter gut machbar, um sie wird sich unterwegs besonders gekümmert) Sehr interessant war auch eine Wanderung durch die Reisfelder und Dörfer, während der wir die Arbeit der Reisbauern beobachten konnten, mit einigen ins Gespräch kamen, Kakaobohnen frisch vom Baum gekostet haben und Anto uns viel über Rinderhaltung, Landwirtschaft und die Arbeit in den Palmölplantagen erklärt hat. Auf einem Schulhof waren wir die Stargäste in der Pause.
Wir waren auch mit Anto in der Fledermaushöhle – keinesfalls verpassen - spannend!!

Unforgetable Jungle Experience

My boyfriend and I spent two weeks in Bukit Lawang and did several activities with "The Jungle Guide" like visiting the bat cave, the Friday Market, went River Rafting. We were also lucky enough to see the breathtaking giant flowers of Gunung Leuser NP.
But the most outstanding experience of the trip was the Two-Days Jungle Track. We saw the semiwild Orangutans and their babies swinging in the trees around us and even were lucky enough to see some wild ones along with many other monkey and bird species and some big lizards. The camp side was very well prepared and the food was absolutely delicious. The tents were built like little huts (just out of tent materieal) with moskito nets. We spent the evening around the campfire an dlistened to the amazing sounds around us. The way through the jungle was steep at times but easy to handle with all the roots and lianas to grab onto. Also the helpful guides are always there to give a hand. We wish we would have chosen a longer track because there is truly nothing like the authentic jungle atmosphere but that's a great reason to come back!
We can highly recommend to book via "The Jungle Guide" as they were extremly helpful in advance and trustworthy friendly and simply a lot of fun in person.

Außergewöhnlich und unvergesslich

Der Urlaub in Bukit Lawang war eine außergewöhnliche Erfahrung für mich. Ein Höhepunkt war dabei der Jungle Trekk, bei dem uns Anto, unser Guide durch den Jungle führte. Mit Respekt und absoluter Professionalität begegnete er dabei dem Ort selber und seinen Bewohnern, führte uns nah genug zum Beobachten, aber in sicherem Abstand an Orang Utas vorbei und begeisterte mich mit seinem absolut unerschöpflichen Wissen über Pflanzen und Tiere seines Zuhauses. Nach dem Aufstieg an einen der höchsten Punkte des Dschungels lag ein Panorama vor uns, dessen Anblick mir unvergessen bleibt. Aufregend war es am Fluss zu übernachten und am nächsten Morgen auf dem Fluß zurück nach Bukit Lawang zu schippern. Umwerfend war auch die tolle Verpflegung unterwegs und die lockere, unkomplizierte Art unser Gastgeber.

Dicke Empfehlung

Bukit Lawang ist einfach das Herzstück Sumatras. Ein Ort voller beeindruckender Natur, lebenslustiger und herzlicher Menschen, sowie einem bunten Tier- und Pflanzenreich, welches es so auf der Welt nicht oft mehr zu entdecken gibt. Meine Mama, meine Tante und ich buchten eine 2-tägige Trekkingwanderung mit Übernachtung am Flussufer des Dschungles mit "The Jungle Guide". Eine Erfahrung so einprägsam, dass ich sie nie wieder missen will. Wir haben sehr viele Orangutans hautnah gesehen und in in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung erlebt!!! Unser Guide Anto, ist ein super lustiger und erfahrener Dschungelführer. Er hat stehts auf uns Acht gegeben und uns in die Geheimnisse des indonesischen Regenwaldes entführt. Für jede/en Abenteurer/in da draußen: Verpasst diese einmalige Chance nicht, die Welt abseits von gut gebauten Straßen und euren bequemen Wohnungen und Häusern zu sehen! Eine dicke Empfehlung geht raus und ich komme immer wieder gerne an diesen wunderbaren Ort und vor allem zu "The Jungle Guide" zurück.

Traumhaftes Dschungelabenteuer

Ganz lieben Dank an das großartige Team von The Jungle Guide! Wir hatten eine atemberaubende Zeit im Dschungel, haben noch nie etwas Vergleichbares erlebt. Super Organisation, herzlichste Atmosphäre im Team, viel gelacht, viel gelernt, viel gesungen - wir hätten keinen besseren Guide als Anto finden können. Seine tiefe Natur- und Tierverbundenheit hat uns besonders berührt... Wenn wir die Augen schließen, sehen wir jetzt noch das paradiesische Camp am Wasserfall. Ein Zurückdenken zaubert uns jedes mal ein Lächeln ins Gesicht.

Unvergessliche Tage in Sumatra

Wir haben in diesem Sommer mit unserer Familie sehr schöne, spannende und erlebnisreiche Tage in Nordsumatra verbracht. Das Team von The Jungle Guide hatte unsere Tour sehr gut vorbereitet. Wir haben eine zweitägige Dschungelwanderung gemacht und dabei viele Orang Utans beobachtet. Das ist einfach unvergesslich, ihnen direkt in die Augen zu sehen. Unsere weiteren Tripps führten uns bei Sonnenaufgang auf einen Vulkan und zum Lake Toba. Auf dem Rückweg von einer Wandereung in Tangkahan konnten unsere Kinder Elefanten waschen und wir schwammen im Fluß einige Kilometer zurück zur Unterkunft. Besonders gute Laune hat das "Jungle-Taxi" (Rafting) gebracht. Bei allen Unternehmungen war dasTeam von The Jungle Guide um unsere Sicherheit und unser Wohlbefinden bedacht. Es gab unterwegs leckere Speisen und jede Menge Spaß. Wir fühlten uns alle wie in einer großen Familie und vermissen unsere Freunde jetzt schon! P.S. Die Tour ist auch für Familien mit Kindern sehr zu empfehlen.

Einfach genial!

Nach gut organisierter Anreise von "The Jungle Guide" mit Abholung in Medan kamen wir nach etwa 3 Stunden in Bukit Lawang an. Die vorher vermittelte Unterkunft war top (Begrüßung mit Smoothies und Affen)! Am nächsten Tag ging es direkt in den Dschungel für 7 Stunden - eine wunderbare Erfahrung! Freilebende Orangutans so nah zu erleben bleibt unvergesslich... Auf dem weiteren Weg begegneten wir Makaken, Thomas Leave Monkeys, Schildkröten, hörten die außergewöhnliche Melodie der Gibbons und sahen sogar einen Sumatra Fasan. Der krönende Abschluss war das Rafting mit dem Jungle Taxi zurück nach Bukit Lawang. Unser Guide war Spitze! Mit großem Einfühlungsvermögen für Mensch und Tier hat er den Tag zu einem absoluten Highlight gemacht. Er kannte den Dschungel wie seine Westentasche und hat uns zu den besten Spots geführt. Fotografen kommen auf jeden Fall auf ihre Kosten!! Der Abend klang mit Gitarrenmusik am Feuer und spannenden Geschichten von unserem Dschungel Team aus. Top Empfehlung, coole Truppe, gerne wieder!

Had no idea what to do, where to stay, how to do, long story short: I had zero clue about this place. What I wanted to do was seeing Orangutan. Googling and found this sweet, friendly, super helpful Senta. She helped me organizing everything, like EVERYTHING. The place was amazing, the trekking was super adventurous. I smiled ear to ear when I saw the orangutan very close to me. We ended the day with rafting and it was fun! Thank you The Jungle Guide for the experience. Definitely will come back soon.

Best service ever!

I was looking for a great experience but they were actually over the top, from the moment I contacted them I could notice the willingness to help, the desire to provide the best service and when I met the crew... I wasn't wrong to choose them from all the other providers, such friendly and genuine people, you will never be afraid that things could go wrong or activities will not be on time, you really don't need to be worried about anything, they will make sure everything is good and even give you suggestions if you are missing something in your own gear, in short they are fantastic!!!! Highly recommended!!!

Es war ein einzigartiges Abenteuer. Haben eine 3 Tages Jungletour gemacht und werden es nie vergessen. Das Team ist wirklich sehr bemüht und hilfsbereit. Kann den Trip für jeden der einen etwas anderen Urlaub sucht nur empfehlen.

Trek of 5 days/4 nights

Really good 5 days/4 nights trek with Sandy (best guide ever), he has a lot of knowledge and has shown us plants, animals, traces, explained about what threatened the park and what they do about it. He is also very friendly, easy to speak to and always putting a good atmosphere. They made us really good jungle food (banana tree, fern and fresh fish) and the way back on tires in the river was fun. I really recommend going with Jungle Guide (and with Sandy if he is free). See you next time to do a one month trek 😉

5 day Jungle Trek Experience

I did the 5 day trek with The Jungle Guide in early January with two other friends, and it was the highlight of my trip to Indonesia. On the trek, my group and I were incredibly looked after by our guides. All the food that was provided was incredibly delicious, and our chefs went above and beyond to source local jungle foods to mix in to the meals which made the experience very unique and memorable. The guide was extremely friendly and engaging, and always put the effort in to teach us about the jungle and the various animals that inhabit it. On our trek we saw semi-wild orangutans on the first day, along with many other animals and birds, and then once we got deeper into the jungle, we spotted wild orangutans and wild deer. The trekking intensity was just at the right level, and every afternoon, our team set up shelters for us right next to the rivers which we were able to swim in and unwind after the day of trekking. The point of contact Senta at The Jungle Guide was always able to respond to any questions we had, and looked after us all the way from our first encounter to us leaving Bukit Lawang. I would recommend taking the 5 day trekking tour with The Jungle Guide if you want to experience the real jungle from Bukit Lawang, and get the most out of your adventure in Sumatra.

Great day exploring Tangkahan and Sumatran elephants!

“The jungle guide” are great people with much knowledge of the area, animals and jungle. We had a great day leaving early morning from Bukit Lawang to bathe with elephants, go to the hot springs and seeing villages in the way. Can really recommend!

The jungle guide made our Bukit-Lawang soooo easy and stressfree. They arranged everything - transport from airport and back, accomodations, Elephant-tour to Tangkahan and of course our 2-Day-trek in the jungle. The guides were very helpful and friendly. And very responsible towards the animals and nature. We got to see 8 different orangutans really close. The jungle-sleeping was… hmm… authentic 🤣 But very nice food and beautiful setting. Even our teenager-som forgot to complain about the lack of power on his phone 🤣 The jungle-taxi on the river was a great finale to a great couple of days. Thank you 🥰
