Here, in our unique rainforest accommodation, you can unwind and calmly attune yourself for your jungle trekking adventure in Bukit Lawang. Enjoy the birdsong, watch squirrels frolic in the trees and occasionally even the beautiful Thomas’s langurs that pay us regular visits.
2023 our dream became true – we found our place on earth: a pristine jungle valley with a natural waterfall carving its way towards the Bahorok River – a true gem.
Since February 2024 we are building our own accommodation here. As we want to keep the natural beauty of this valley, it’s a long construction process – every tree and every stone will be preserved. Therefore there’s still a lot of work ahead of us and we hope for your patience until everything is ready.
We are excited to welcome you to our unique treetop restaurant at the top of our valley. Enjoy the stunning jungle view while trying our traditional local cuisine or carefully selected western meals from our homemade menu. In the evenings, we love to gather around our rustic little fire place or play the guitar and sing together.
For now we can offer you our 3 cute Jungle Cabins, the new charming Rambutan Bungalow and as a low budget option our Orchard Gazebo. All have wonderful views into the lush green and were build with love for detail.
The nature pools, which are fuelled by our waterfall, aren’t completely ready yet for a refreshing bath. To make it reality we need a little more time. We ask for your continued patience and hope that you can already enjoy the unique jungle atmosphere.
Check out the map or contact us to find us easily!
You can either get here by car/motorbike from above our land, entering the small road from Perumahan Village and passing Sumatra Thomas Leaf Monkey Guesthouse as well as Orangutan Backpacker Guesthouse until you see our sign on the left side.

Or you can follow our stairs from the footpath in Bukit Lawang (Jalan Orangutan), right in front of Umi Yuki Restaurant, up past the waterfall and the cabins to our restaurant at the top.
In the middle of Bukit Lawang, our 3 Jungle Cabins sit in a lush jungle valley where a waterfall flows through the rocks. The forest has called this place home long before we arrived. Therefore, it’s essential to us that our buildings don’t disturb what was here first. To avoid cutting trees or digging through roots and water lines, we kept the cabins as small and simple as possible and placed the bathrooms in a shared area nearby.
We know this choice means a little less private comfort. But that way we can keep our ecological footprint low, protect the trees that shade our place, and leave the landscape and sounds of the jungle just as they are. If you choose to stay with us, we hope you’ll understand our decision and love this small paradise as much as we do! 🤍
Directly behind our 3 jungle cabins you will find the 2 shared stone bathrooms. They are each equipped with a bamboo shower (cool water only), western toilet, small rubbish bin, a mirror and hooks for hanging up your clothes and towel. The stone sink is located on the outside wall in the middle between the two bathrooms.
We’re excited to introduce our new centerpiece: a room option with a little more comfort, alongside our beloved Jungle Cabins. Set just above our waterfall valley, this bungalow sits where we had a bit more space for building – so we used it carefully and with plenty of love for detail. In the small gardens out front, we’ve planted young rambutan trees – very delicious fruits that give the bungalow its name.
Inside, there’s room for up to four guests (our recommendation: 2 adults + 2 children) and the convenience of a private bathroom (still cool water only). Step onto the terrace to enjoy the wonderful view across our jungle valley. At night, you can watch the romantic glow of lights twinkling from the lodges across the river.
Looking ahead, we plan to add a nature pool beside the Rambutan Bungalow. For now, it’s only a future idea, so you can relax without any worry about construction noise 😉
Please note: this is not a typical hotel room – it comes closer to a glamping experience. The gazebo is an open pavilion fitted with bamboo roller blinds on all four sides, plus a mosquito net and comfortable mattresses.
You’re welcome to use the shared bathrooms of the Jungle Cabins just a few steps down the stairs, or the restrooms at our restaurant about 100 meters away.
We originally built the gazebo as a quiet relaxation space. During high season, when most accommodations were sold out, guests asked if they could stay here, so we prepared it as an additional room option. It’s a simple, airy base, and the perfect warm-up if you’re heading out on an overnight jungle trek 😉
Every Saturday night, there is live music at Thomas Retreat (on the opposite side of the river). This can be heard very loudly even as far as our accommodation. The music starts at 10 o'clock in the evening and ends early in the morning around 2.30 am. We apologise for this inconvenience and ask for your understanding.
To make your nights rest easier, please feel free to ask for earplugs at our reception.
Our tip:
Go and enjoy the party - it's really nice music and a lively atmosphere!
Or plan your jungle trek around spending Saturday night in the jungle
So far all our bathroom showers only run with cool water. We are located in a natural jungle valley. Not installing water heaters isn’t about cutting comfort – it’s about keeping our footprint light.
Here’s how cool-water showers help protect nature:
Lower energy use means fewer emissions:
Heating water is one of the biggest energy sinks in accommodations.
Less hardware means smaller material footprint:
No boilers, heating elements, insulation, or extra piping means fewer raw materials to make and less destroying of our jungle valley for installing the pipes. Additionally there will be fewer service runs & a quieter habitat.
Right-Sized Power:
With lower peak demand, we can rely more on small, quiet, and renewable-friendly energy setups instead of oversizing generators or batteries.
Water-Wise Showers:
Cool showers tend to be shorter, easing pressure on local water sources (especially in dry season important) and keeping the valley’s natural flow undisturbed.
Safer & simpler in the tropics:
Fewer hot-water components reduce the risk of leaks, scaling, and electrical faults in a humid environment, while a cool rinse fits the climate.
What this means for your stay:
Expect refreshing, cool water only at all showers.
For a warmer wash, we recommend to shower in the late morning/afternoon when air temperatures are highest and the water in our tank is warmed up.
We provide fluffy towels and recommend a quick shower after treks – it’s amazingly revitalizing.
Thank you for your understanding and helping us keep the forest quiet, clean, and wild.
